On September 11th, Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction (HHIC)-Philippines successfully launched the Wide Delta, a 5,380 TEU baby post-Panamax container ship, to its owners. This vessel marks the fourth delivery out of a planned fleet of ten sister ships commissioned by Oaktree’s subsidiary, OCM Luxembourg Park. The Wide Delta will be managed by Rickmers Shipmanagement as part of a charter agreement with leading liner container operators. The series of ships is inspired by the Phoenetic alphabet, with earlier deliveries such as Wide Alpha and Wide Bravo already in operation under NYK charter. The rest of the fleet includes Wide Charlie through Wide Juliet, with all but the first two designated for Maersk Line. Currently, Wide Delta joins Wide Charlie, which is now operating as Maersk Indus, in service for Maersk. The remaining six vessels are expected to be fully operational by the end of the first quarter of 2015. The specifications of this class include a length of 255 meters, a breadth of 37.3 meters, and a draft of 13.9 meters, powered by a MAN B&W 6G80ME-C9 main engine that enables a service speed of 21.5 knots.
