On December 25, 2025, at 8:08 PM, the container ship CMA CGM Niagara, which set sail from Singapore on December 24 with a crew of 25, suffered a collision with the barge Harbour Jupiter. At the time of the incident, Harbour Jupiter was being towed by the tug Harbour Dragon (MMSI: 533132961) from Port Klang to Sibu, Sarawak, and had 10 crew members on board. This maritime incident occurred within the Traffic Separation Scheme of the Strait of Malacca and the Strait of Singapore. The collision resulted from the CMA CGM Niagara losing control and veering towards the barge. The Harbour Jupiter was struck on its port side, causing it to list and partially submerge, with some containers either toppling over or flooding. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the 35 crew members aboard both vessels. Following the accident, the CMA CGM Niagara anchored in the waters near Nongsa, Batam. The Batam Harbour Master, along with the Port Authority Office (KSOP), promptly responded to the scene, carrying out a technical inspection and initiating an investigation into the cause of the collision. After a thorough assessment, the CMA CGM Niagara was cleared to resume its voyage on January 2, 2026, successfully reaching its destination port on January 5.
