Working Conditions Aboard the Cma-Cgm-Shakespeare

The bulk carrier 'Delphis Gdansk' has successfully completed its repair operations following a collision with the container vessel 'BBC Neptune' (IMO: 9537264). After docking at a repair facility in Gdansk on April 10, the ship departed from the yard on May 26 at 9:30 PM. The vessel then made its way to St. Petersburg, arriving at the CTSP - Container Terminal on May 28 at 9:30 AM.

On March 27, the 'Delphis Gdansk' was involved in a collision with the 'BBC Neptune', an incident that has seen the former vessel remain in Gdansk for repairs while the latter is currently undergoing maintenance at the Lloyd Yard in Bremerhaven. In the aftermath of this maritime mishap, a significant amount of cargo—including bananas, cardboard, and plastic—was washed ashore on the small island of Endelave. The Horsens municipality has actively engaged in cleaning up the coastline, employing an average of seven workers from the Service and Preparedness to gather debris using shovels, rubs, and rubber gloves. To date, the municipality's Environment and Nature Department has successfully collected between 20 to 25 tonnes of waste from a 30-kilometer stretch of coast. With the cleanup efforts now complete, the collected materials are en route to the Horsens power station, where they will be incinerated as part of the waste disposal process.

The fate of two containers that fell overboard from the MV Delphis Gdansk in the Great Belt remains uncertain as they rest at a depth of approximately 35 meters. The next course of action will be determined by the ships' flag states, Liberia and Hong Kong, who are currently in discussions about the recovery process. The Danish Maritime Accident Commission is in talks with these flag states regarding responsibilities for the investigation and report writing. Should the flag states drop the ball, the commission may need to step in to fulfill this duty. Fortunately, to date, there is no indication that the lost containers pose any risk to marine ecosystems. The Delphis Gdansk initially departed from St. Petersburg, where it was docked for three days, on April 6 at noon. The vessel then made its way to the Bronka Container Terminal, docking at 2:40 PM. Following this, it successfully arrived at Gdanska Stocznia Remontowa Shiprepair Yard in Gdansk on April 10 at 9:20 AM, after unloading its cargo at Lomonosov.
