On February 18, 2021, a dramatic rescue transpired approximately 60 miles off the coast of Grays Harbor, as the US Coast Guard executed a medevac for a crew member aboard the fishing vessel 'Commitment'. The situation unfolded around 2 p.m. when Coast Guard watchstanders at Sector Columbia River were alerted via VHF-FM channel 16 about the injured seafarer, who had suffered a serious laceration to his face and eye while working in the engine room. Responding promptly, an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter rescue crew launched from Sector Columbia River in Warrenton, Oregon at 2:45 p.m. They located the injured individual and successfully hoisted him from the vessel around 3:30 p.m. Once on solid ground, he was met by emergency medical personnel who provided immediate care. By 4:15 p.m., the mariner was reported to be in stable condition and was subsequently transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital in Astoria for further treatment.
