OPDR Transitioning to New Terminal at Hamburg Port
In a significant shift, OPDR has announced plans to transition to a new terminal at the Port of Hamburg, concluding a successful two-decade partnership with Buss Hansa Terminal. The new operational base will be the Süd-West-Terminal (SWT), managed by the C. Steinweg Group. The first OPDR vessel is scheduled to dock at the SWT on October 11, 2016. The Süd-West-Terminal stands out as a versatile multi-purpose facility that caters exceptionally well to short sea shipping needs. Located centrally within the port, this terminal boasts over 210,000 square meters of operational space, complemented by outstanding road and rail connectivity, alongside 65,000 square meters of covered storage facilities. Its impressive 1,350-meter quay accommodates six berths, and additional amenities include a repair shop and dedicated storage areas for empty containers. C. Steinweg Group is not new to OPDR; the company has been a key partner in Rotterdam, managing all OPDR vessels at the Rotterdam Short Sea Terminal (RST). Till Ole Barrelet, the Chief Executive Officer of OPDR, expressed gratitude towards Buss Hansa Terminal for their longstanding collaboration and anticipates a fruitful new partnership with C. Steinweg, affirming, 'The Süd-West-Terminal offers excellent infrastructure that aligns with OPDR's operational needs.' As OPDR embarks on this new journey, the DP Legacy, a vessel with a capacity of 925 TEU, will inaugurate the connection to the Süd-West-Terminal, continuing its route to Rotterdam shortly after departing Hamburg.
Conmar Shipping and Contships Management Forge Strategic Partnership in Feeder Shipping
In a significant development within the shipping industry, Germany's Conmar Shipping KG and Athens-based Contships Management have announced a strategic partnership aimed at optimizing commercial and technical operations. This collaboration may pave the way for joint acquisitions of container feeder vessels in the near future, as revealed in a statement issued today. The two companies proudly operate a combined fleet of 25 feeder ships, showcasing their robust presence in the sector. Conmar Shipping currently owns 10 feeder vessels, each ranging from 735 to 1,036 TEU, with six of those holding the prestigious ice class 1A certification, as reported by VesselsValue.com. Contships, established earlier this year by Nicolas Pateras through his company Pacific and Atlantic, manages a fleet of nine feeders, with capacities varying between 706 and 977 TEU. Notably, in December 2014, Contships expanded its fleet by acquiring the DP Legacy and Tongan 2, both with a capacity of 925 TEU and built in 2007, from Germany’s Komrowski for approximately $4.7 million each. Conmar expressed its enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, 'This is a key milestone in Greek-German shipping where two traditional shipping groups join forces to leverage their experience and knowledge to improve their services to their clients.' This collaboration not only marks an exciting chapter for both companies but also indicates a promising future for feeder shipping operations in Europe.
