On August 31, 2023, around noon, the Greek Coast Guard's Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) received a distress call from the Master of the 'Contship Oak', reporting that a 36-year-old crew member had gone missing in the waters southwest of Megistis Island. The vessel, which had departed from Malta and was en route to Mersin, triggered an immediate response as two patrol boats were dispatched to initiate a Search and Rescue (SAR) operation. Nearby ships were also mobilized to assist in the search efforts. By September 1, the rescue operation had expanded to include a lifeguard boat, a patrol vessel, three sailing ships, and an aerial search by helicopter, yet no results had been found as the search continued.

In a concerning incident off the coast of Cameroon, the container vessel "Contship Oak" was targeted by armed pirates late on March 30, 2019. While anchored in position 03 53 N 009 30 E, at the outer anchorage of Douala within the Bight of Bonny, the crew faced a terrifying ordeal. The assailants boarded the ship, thoroughly ransacking both the vessel and the personnel aboard. In a brazen act, they managed to kidnap four crew members before making their escape. Fortunately, the "Contship Oak" was able to dock safely at Douala Commercial Port the following day, March 31, allowing for the investigation to commence into the piracy attack.
