Chilean shipping giant CSAV is set to enhance its fleet with the addition of two newly built 9,300-TEU vessels, the Copiapo and the Cautin, crafted by the esteemed Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea. The ceremonial naming of these impressive ships took place at the shipyard, attended by key figures including CSAV chairman Francisco Perez Mackenna and CEO Oscar Hasbun. This move marks a significant milestone for CSAV as it expands its fleet of owned vessels, aiming to increase ownership to 50% by phasing out chartered ships. According to reports from Seatrade Global, this fleet expansion is a crucial element of the company's overall restructuring strategy, which involves substantial investments in asset acquisition. The Copiapo is scheduled for delivery on November 26 and will commence operations in Shanghai, engaging in trade routes between Asia and the Middle East. Meanwhile, the Cautin, set to be delivered on December 18, will serve the route connecting northern European ports to the east coast of South America.
