Urgent Medevac Operation Near Hartlepool Saves Crew Member
On January 31, 2021, at approximately 7:50 a.m., an urgent distress call was received from the 'Coral Stichy', which was located three miles off the coast of Hartlepool. The situation was critical as a crew member on board had suffered a suspected stroke. The Humber Coastguard swiftly alerted the Hartlepool RNLI volunteer crew, who were paged at the same time. Responding promptly, the RNLI's all-weather lifeboat departed at 8:10 a.m., reaching the vessel just eight minutes later. Upon arrival, two RNLI crew members boarded 'Coral Stichy' to assess the patient's condition and provided immediate medical care. Shortly after, a Coastguard helicopter arrived on scene and lowered a paramedic onto the ship's deck to assist in treating the casualty. In a coordinated effort, both the patient and the paramedic were winched into the helicopter, which promptly transported them to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough for further treatment.
