Sep 17, 2024 10:39

On September 3, 2024, the crane barge 'Jowi', registered under Dutch flag and identified with ENI-No.: 02330037, was successfully raised by the sheerleg crane 'Cormorant'. Cormorant Successfully Raises Former Benidorm Star Vessel Off Lowestoft

Nov 21, 2017 09:15

On November 20, 2023, the salvage vessel 'Cormorant' successfully salvaged the sunken former British restaurant ship and tug 'Ella', previously known as 'Zeeland' and 'Marg. Gerling', with a gross tonnage of 136 GT (IMO No.: 5428087). The 'Ella' had been submerged since July 6, located approximately 3.5 miles southeast of Lowestoft, specifically at position 52Β° 23.64’N, 001Β° 48.96’E, around 2.1 nautical miles southeast of the East Barnard Light Buoy, while under tow by the 'Kingston Lacey' on its journey from Hartlepool to Rochester. A Dutch consortium, comprised of DUC Marine Group and Multraship Towage and Salvage, was commissioned to extricate the wreck, which had become a navigational obstacle. Initial salvage operations commenced on November 3, but the team had to return to port due to adverse weather conditions, halting efforts on November 13. During a hydrographic survey conducted on November 18, it was discovered that the vessel had settled deeper into the seabed, necessitating a modification of the salvage approach. A specialized salvage grab was subsequently ordered from the Netherlands, which effectively lifted the wreckage from the seafloor. The 'Ella' had operated as a floating restaurant at Hartlepool Marina since 2010 and was intended to be towed to Kent for transformation into a floating office or accommodation.
