The 'Hanze Kochi', an oil tanker, fell victim to a pirate attack by Nigerian assailants on the early morning of September 16, 2016, while navigating off the coast of Brass in the Gulf of Guinea. The crew managed to seek refuge in the citadel when the attackers boarded the vessel. Fortunately, armed personnel intervened and successfully reclaimed the ship. At the time of the incident, the 'Hanze Kochi' was making its way from Port Harcourt, where it departed on September 15, destined for Lagos. It arrived safely at Lagos anchorage just after midnight on September 17.
