Cosco England Grounded During Bunkering Near Vladivostok

Oct 08, 2019 09:37

On the evening of October 7, 2019, the container vessel 'Cosco England' ran aground at approximately 11 p.m. near the Skrypleva islet lighthouse in the outer anchorage of Vladivostok. The incident occurred while the ship was in the process of receiving bunker fuel from a tanker. A sudden squall caused the anchor to drag, leaving the vessel adrift. As a precaution, the bunkering operation was halted, and the supplying tanker quickly unmoored and relocated to safety. In response to the grounding, the Vladivostok Naval Rescue Coordination Center dispatched the tugs 'Dobrynya' and 'Bogatyr' along with pilot boats to assist in efforts to refloat the aground vessel. Their efforts proved successful, and the 'Cosco England' was refloated by 2:30 a.m. on October 8, 2019. Subsequently, the ship re-anchored off Vladivostok at 8:30 a.m., coordinates 43Β° 2.47' N, 132Β° 0.04' E.
