Shipping Routes Adjust Following Ningbo Terminal Closure Due to COVID-19
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ningbo Meishan Island International Container Terminal (MSICT) was closed as of August 11, 2021, prompting ships to reroute to Shanghai. The terminal halted all operations at 3 a.m. on August 12, and export container gate-in was restricted to a two-day window around a vessel's estimated time of arrival (ETA). CMA CGM announced that operations for its vessels, the 'CMA CGM Samson' and the 'CMA CGM Rivoli', currently docked, were placed on pause until the terminal could resume activities. The 'CMA CGM Melisande', which is part of the PEX3 service, is now expected to make a stop in Shanghai on August 18 or 19 before heading to Ningbo, with an anticipated arrival on August 20 or 21. Similarly, the Kerguelen from the FAL3 service is set to follow this adjusted route but will do so two days earlier. In a further response to the situation, vessels like the 'CMA CGM Centaurus', the 'Cosco Venice', and the 'Kota Carum' will entirely skip Ningbo. Hapag-Lloyd has issued a customer alert regarding potential delays in its scheduled sailings, while Cosco indicated that additional ships are likely to bypass Ningbo during the week.
