The maritime rescue coordination center, CROSS Corsen M based in Brest, received an urgent call at 9:20 p.m. regarding a medical emergency on the vessel. The local SNSM station in Saint-Quay-Portrieux swiftly dispatched a team to assist. Despite the crew’s valiant efforts to resuscitate the sailor through CPR, sadly, he was pronounced dead. This incident serves as a somber reminder of the risks faced by maritime professionals.

Dredger Uncovers Bomb in Bordeaux: A Swift Response from Naval Forces

On June 19, 2011, the regional rescue center in Etek received an urgent report regarding the 'Côtes de Bretagne,' which had discovered an unexploded bomb in the waters off Bordeaux. Prompt action was initiated by CROSS Etel, which immediately alerted the Naval Operation Center in Brest. In response, a request was made for an EC 225 helicopter stationed at the naval air base in Lanvéoc-Poulmic, along with a specialized team of explosive ordnance disposal divers from Brest's demining group. At 1:35 PM, the EC 225 helicopter took off towards the Brittany coastline, heading to the dredger's location in the Gironde estuary, roughly 3 kilometers southwest of Meschers-en-Gironde. A certified diver along with four demining experts were successfully winched onto the dredger, where they neutralized the bomb by 3:55 PM, ensuring the safety of the surrounding area.
