Crown Princess Experiences Tilt in Milford Sound, 16 Injured

Mar 03, 2025 09:35

On February 24, 2025, the cruise ship 'Crown Princess', sailing from Sydney to Port Chalmers, faced an unexpected listing while navigating the picturesque Milford Sound. This tilt, which exceeded the vessel's standard movement, was a direct result of fierce winds encountered during a change in course. The incident resulted in minor injuries to 13 passengers and three crew members. Fortunately, the situation was swiftly managed. Water from the Lido Deck pool spilled into a dining area, prompting a quick cleanup, and some items from shops and galleys were dislodged. Thankfully, the 'Crown Princess' did not incur any structural damage and proceeded with its scheduled itinerary. The dedicated crew efficiently ensured the safety of all aboard, restoring normalcy swiftly. The ship was currently on a 14-day roundtrip voyage around New Zealand, having departed from Sydney. Urgent Medical Evacuation from Crown Princess in New Caledonia

Jan 08, 2025 11:57

On the evening of January 7, the New Caledonia Operational Surveillance and Rescue Center (COSS NC) coordinated a critical medical evacuation from the cruise ship 'Crown Princess'. The vessel, traveling from Fiji towards Australia, raised an alarm at 9:30 p.m. when a passenger urgently needed medical assistance. At that time, the ship was approximately 210 nautical miles southeast of the Isle of Pines. An Air Force Puma helicopter was deployed to the scene. Following a medical assessment onboard, it was determined that the patient should be transported to Noumea for further treatment. The operation extended throughout the night, and the individual was successfully admitted to the Médipôle at around 5:30 a.m. on January 9. This incident marks a surge in emergency medical evacuations in New Caledonia, with four recent operations involving five passengers from various cruise ships. Notably, on December 29, 2024, an 85-year-old woman was airlifted from the 'Queen Elizabeth' to the Noumea hospital. Just two days later, on December 31, a 17-year-old from the 'Carnival Luminosa' faced evacuation due to a serious health condition that required prompt hospitalization. Additionally, on January 4, a dual medical evacuation occurred from the 'Carnival Splendor', where two Australian passengers suffering from respiratory distress were transferred to the Médipôle.

Coast Guard Executes Urgent Medivac Operations for Two Elderly Men from Crown Princess

Oct 07, 2024 10:39

On October 5, 2023, the U.S. Coast Guard undertook two critical medevac operations for elderly passengers aboard the cruise ship 'Crown Princess,' located approximately 50 nautical miles from Cape Kumukahi, Hawaii. The situation began to unfold on the evening of October 4, when the Joint Rescue Coordination Center Honolulu received a distress call at 6 p.m. from the ship, which reported that a 70-year-old man was exhibiting symptoms akin to a heart attack, and an 86-year-old passenger was suffering from internal bleeding. In light of the urgent medical needs, Coast Guard watchstanders consulted a duty flight surgeon who deemed it necessary to arrange for both passengers' immediate evacuation. The rescue proved swift and effective. At 9 a.m. the following day, an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point met the 'Crown Princess' in the ocean. The first operation involved the successful hoist of the 70-year-old man, who was subsequently transported to Hilo Medical Center in stable condition. Shortly thereafter, the second patient, the 86-year-old man, was also safely lifted and taken to Hilo Medical Center, where he remained in stable condition as well. This coordinated effort highlights the Coast Guard's commitment to maritime safety and their ability to respond rapidly to medical emergencies at sea.
