On March 20, 2018, a maritime mishap occurred when the reefer vessel 'Crown Ruby' experienced a hull breach after colliding with an underwater obstruction, resulting in an oil leak from its tanks. The incident took place as the ship made its way into the Kalundborg Fjord. The local Navy Rescue Force was alerted at 2:45 p.m., prompting the deployment of the 'MHV 912 - Holger Danske,' which set sail with a dedicated crew of 10 volunteers at 4:10 p.m. The rescue team reached the beleaguered vessel just 25 minutes later. Upon investigation, divers uncovered a crack in the hull, and the response crew promptly laid out 360 meters of oil booms on either side of the ship. This effective measure encircled the vessel’s aft and the breach, successfully containing the oil leakage which had already spread into a substantial slick measuring approximately two kilometers in length and 20 meters wide. At the time, the 'Crown Ruby' was en route from St. Petersburg to Cristóbal, Panama, and was subsequently anchored at Røsnæs in the Kalundborg Fjord following the discovery of the breach.
