Coast Guard Rescues Injured Worker from Cargo Ship Off Miami
On September 4, 2018, the U.S. Coast Guard executed a medevac operation for a 48-year-old male crew member from the cargo vessel 'Green Ridge', situated approximately 100 miles southeast of Miami. The emergency call was received by Coast Guard Miami watchstanders at 10 a.m., reporting that the man had fallen from the cargo deck and suffered significant head and neck injuries while operating a forklift on board. In response to the urgent situation, a helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Miami aboard an MH-65 Dolphin was deployed to the location. Upon arrival, the crew hoisted the injured individual and transported him to awaiting local emergency medical services, who later delivered him to Jackson Memorial Hospital for further treatment. Tragic Outcome Leads to Cancellation of Rescue Operation for Crew Member on Green Ridge
In a heartbreaking turn of events, a multi-agency rescue mission aimed at aiding a gravely ill crew member aboard the cargo vessel "Green Ridge" in the Pacific Ocean was abandoned following the man's death on the morning of August 19, 2015. The saga began on August 18 when the 11th Coast Guard District Command Center received an urgent report around 9:50 a.m. about the unwell crew member. Promptly mobilizing resources, the command center called in support from the California Air National Guard. A team of four Guardian Angel pararescuemen was dispatched aboard an Air Force MC-130P Combat Shadow aircraft to reach the stricken vessel. Upon jumping into the ocean, the brave rescuers boarded the "Green Ridge" and began administering vital medical assistance to the crew member. Further support came from a Coast Guard Air Station Sacramento C-130, which successfully delivered 10 units of blood from Travis Air Force Base to the 129th Rescue Crew at Moffett Air Field prior to their departure. In a show of coordinated efforts, the U.S. Navy's 3rd Fleet was contacted to provide additional assistance, diverting a naval ship to meet up with the "Green Ridge". Unfortunately, despite these considerable efforts, the ship's doctor pronounced the patient deceased at approximately 6:15 a.m. on August 19. With this development, all involved rescue units were subsequently released from duty, and the Air National Guard team was to be taken aboard the Navy vessel.
Brown Widow Spiders Discovered During Vehicle Discharge in Guam
On August 8, 2014, the cargo vessel 'Green Ridge' arrived in Guam, prompting a routine inspection of 560 incoming vehicles. During this meticulous check, port cargo inspectors unexpectedly encountered a spider, leading them to notify Guam Customs. The discharge process began promptly at 8:25 a.m. and was completed by 4:20 p.m. After the operations wrapped up, inspectors, in collaboration with the Department of Customs & Quarantine, conducted a thorough examination of the vehicles. Their efforts revealed approximately 25 brown widow spiders, identified by Dr. Russell Campbell, an expert entomologist from the Department of Agriculture. All identified brown widow spiders were successfully exterminated and collected by Customs & Quarantine to ensure public safety.
