CSCL Globe Makes Historic Debut at Hamburg Port

Jan 15, 2015 09:38

On January 13, 2015, the impressive 19,100 TEU container ship CSCL Globe marked a significant milestone with its maiden call at the Port of Hamburg during its inaugural journey from China to Europe. Built by Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. at their Ulsan, South Korea shipyard, the CSCL Globe is the leading vessel in a series of five ships constructed for China Shipping Container Lines, with its delivery completed in November 2013. The title of the world's largest containership by carrying capacity is currently contested; the MSC Oscar, which has a capacity of 19,224 TEUs, was launched just a week earlier at the DSME shipyard, also located in South Korea. Nonetheless, the CSCL Globe is a formidable giant in its own right, boasting dimensions of 400 meters in length, 58.6 meters in width, and 30.5 meters in depth. CSCL GLOBE: The World's Largest Container Ship Docks in Rotterdam

Jan 12, 2015 08:50

In an event filled with excitement and anticipation, the port of Rotterdam officially welcomed the CSCL GLOBE, renowned as the largest container ship globally, on Saturday. Owned by China Shipping Group, this colossal vessel faced challenging weather conditions with gale winds reaching up to 10 knots and towering waves of four meters, which delayed its entrance into the port. The CSCL GLOBE embarked on its maiden journey last December, departing from Tianjin, China, and is now navigating the Asia-Europe trade route. Spanning an impressive 400 meters in length and 60 meters in width, this ship is comparable to four soccer fields, as noted by Xiaowen Huang, the deputy general manager of China Shipping Group, during the welcoming ceremony. Notably, the CSCL GLOBE can carry an astonishing 19,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of shipping containers. Its state-of-the-art electronically controlled main engine smartly adjusts fuel consumption corresponding to speed and sea conditions, enabling it to consume 20% less fuel per TEU than smaller vessels with a 10,000 TEU capacity. After its Rotterdam stop, the ship is set to continue to Hamburg, Germany, and Zeebrugge, Belgium, before returning to Rotterdam in mid-January for additional cargo operations.

CSCL Globe Makes Historic Arrival at Felixstowe as World's Largest Container Ship

Jan 08, 2015 08:18

On January 7, 2023, the maritime world witnessed a significant milestone as the CSCL Globe, the largest container ship globally, made its first-ever visit to the UK. This monumental vessel, registered in Hong Kong, arrived at Felixstowe carrying approximately 19,000 standard containers. Previously, the largest ship that docked at this busy port was the Maersk Triple-E, which made its appearance in November 2022 with about 18,000 containers aboard. Having set sail from China in December, the CSCL Globe reached the Suffolk coast precisely at 13:00 GMT. It was securely berthed at the port's advanced deep-water berths eight and nine, which opened in 2011 following a significant investment of £300 million. Felixstowe Port officials noted that without such enhancements, accommodating vessels of this magnitude would not have been feasible. The cargo on board this colossal ship encompasses a diverse array of consumer goods, including food, beverages, clothing, electronics, and furniture. The vessel's journey took it from its last port of call in Kelang, Malaysia, further cementing its status in the global shipping industry.
