CSCL Yellow Sea Involved in Pier Allision in Alexandria, Resulting in Crane Damage
On November 13, 2017, at approximately 1:50 a.m., the container vessel CSCL Yellow Sea was detained at Al Ezz Dekheila Steel in Dekheila port, Alexandria, following an unfortunate allision with a pier during its mooring process. This incident resulted in significant damage to two cranes at the container terminal. In the aftermath, the ship was prohibited from departing until a thorough assessment of the damage was conducted and a suitable bank guarantee was provided. The port authority indicated that the vessel may have approached the quay at an excessive speed, contributing to the incident. CSCL Takes Delivery of Its Sixth 10,036 TEU Vessel: The CSCL YELLOW SEA
China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL) has marked a significant milestone by taking delivery of the CSCL YELLOW SEA, the sixth vessel in its impressive fleet of eight 10,036 TEU container ships. The vessel, constructed by Hudong Zhonghua and valued at approximately US$94.3 million, is part of a substantial order placed in October 2011. According to Alphaliner, a prominent maritime newsletter based in Paris, CSCL opted not to exercise its option for four additional units in April 2012, with the overall fleet order shared between Hudong Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) and Dalian Shipbuilding Heavy Industries. The CSCL YELLOW SEA is expected to enhance the America-Asia Container (AAC) service, operating alongside five of its sister ships, including the recently delivered CSCL AUTUMN and CSCL BOHAI SEA, which joined the fleet in May. This latest delivery enables a significant boost in the fleet's capacity, increasing the loop's capacity from 8,500 TEU to the new 10,000 TEU scale, while slot-sharing with Evergreen, UASC, and Yang Ming.
