In a valiant effort, the Tenby RNLI launched a rescue operation last Tuesday to assist a 2nd mate injured aboard the 135-meter container ship, 'ENDEAVOR'. The incident occurred around 2:20 PM, approximately 25 miles west-southwest of St Anne's Head, as rough seas caused an unfortunate accident where the crew member caught his hand in a slamming door, resulting in a deep laceration. The 'ENDEAVOR', which was traveling from Liverpool to Bilbao, Spain, found itself in a precarious situation with no helicopter available for extraction. Due to the severe sea conditions, the lifeboat could not safely approach the vessel. Following a consultation with the Milford Haven Coastguard, it was determined that the 'ENDEAVOR' should navigate towards the sheltered waters of Freshwater East. Once the Haydn Miller lifeboat was launched, it quickly arrived at the scene, where the coxswain faced challenging high winds and swell to maneuver alongside the container ship. Successfully boarding the vessel, the lifeboat crew assessed the injured mate before transporting him back to Tenby. There, he was met by paramedics at the Tenby Lifeboat Station and subsequently taken to a hospital for further treatment. This operation highlights the ongoing commitment and bravery of the RNLI in safeguarding lives at sea.
