Working Conditions Aboard the Cycladic-Spire

In the early hours of February 22, 2025, the tanker 'Cycladic Spire' fell victim to an armed boarding incident at Balikpapan Anchorage, located at coordinates 1° 2.75' N and 103° 39.23' E, approximately 3.5 nautical miles west of Pulau Cula within the eastbound lane of the Singapore Strait's Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS). At around 3:10 a.m., assailants brandishing knives and gun-like objects unlawfully boarded the vessel, stealing valuable engine spares before making their swift escape. Thankfully, none of the crew on board experienced any injuries during the ordeal.

On August 30, 2021, 19 crew members aboard the 'Global Striker' were medically evacuated after developing flu-like symptoms while navigating through San Francisco Bay, having arrived from West Sacramento. This incident was later confirmed as an outbreak of coronavirus by the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Responding promptly, the San Francisco Fire Department dispatched a boat to transfer the affected crew to Pier 26, situated under the Bay Bridge, for urgent medical attention. Of the evacuees, three were promptly taken to Parnassus hospital, while six others had already tested positive for COVID-19 on August 29. Throughout the evacuation process, the fire department implemented universal precautions against the coronavirus, ensuring the safety of all involved. As of August 31, the 'Global Striker' remained anchored at the coordinates 37° 45.03' N 122° 19.86' W.
