On December 16, 2014, the bulk carrier 'Xiang Tong 9' encountered difficulties while navigating the Tatarskiy Strait, resulting in a grounding incident as it departed from Nevelsk port situated on Sakhalin Island. The vessel, which was carrying a full load of coal, was under the guidance of a pilot and supported by two tugboats at the time of the incident. Fortunately, the 'Xiang Tong 9' was successfully refloated just after midnight on December 17 and subsequently anchored in the outer roads for thorough inspections and surveys.
