Recovery Mission: 'Stena Progress' Aids in Rescuing Two Castaways
In a dramatic maritime rescue operation, the tanker 'Stena Progress', while navigating from Montreal to Houston, played a critical role in a search and rescue (SAR) mission 529 miles east of Virginia Beach. This operation was initiated in the early hours of November 13, 2019, when the U.S. Coast Guard moved to locate a missing individual who had entered the water alongside two companions. Coast Guard watchstanders at the 5th District command center received an urgent MAYDAY call at around 4 a.m. from the sailing vessel 'In Tune', prompting a swift response from the crew of the 'Stena Progress', which adjusted its course towards the emergency. The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter 'Vigorous', along with an HC-130 Hercules aircrew dispatched from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, North Carolina, and an HC-144 Casa aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod, Massachusetts, were deployed to assist in the search and rescue efforts. By the time the HC-130 Hercules reached the scene, thanks to the quick actions of the 'Stena Progress', two of the three individuals had already been rescued. Subsequently, the aircrew deployed a life raft to facilitate a further search for the remaining person. In the afternoon, the HC-144 Casa aircrew took over the search operation. After an extensive search covering more than 1,069 square nautical miles, the Coast Guard regretfully suspended operations pending any new information regarding the case.
Concordia Maritime Secures Three-Year Charter for P-MAX Tanker Stena Progress
Concordia Maritime is pleased to announce that it has successfully entered into a three-year time charter agreement for its P-MAX tanker, Stena Progress. This partnership will commence in April 2016 and is with a national oil company, reflecting the ongoing demand for specialized maritime transportation. CEO Kim Ullman emphasized the strategic advantage of this long-term charter, stating, "We are continuing to take advantage of the market momentum by chartering out another of our P-MAX tankers over a longer period. To date, we have successfully chartered three out of our ten P-MAX tankers for extended terms, and we are actively exploring additional opportunities for similar contracts. All agreements align with our chartering strategy, ensuring a stable income stream for the vessel while strategically managing our exposure to the spot market." The Stena Progress will primarily engage in niche trades within the Atlantic Basin, capitalizing on the P-MAX tanker's shallow draft and substantial cargo capacity, which enable the efficient transportation of large volumes of cargo. This deal reinforces Concordia Maritime's commitment to optimizing its fleet utilization and responding adeptly to market dynamics.
