The vessel now recognized as the DALLAS EXPRESS was formerly named ANTWEREPEN EXPRESS until its official renaming on February 1, 2012. This change aligns with HAPAG-Lloyd's ambitious newbuilding initiative, which includes a fleet expansion featuring ten Ultra Large Container Carriers (ULCCs) ranging from 10,000 to over 13,000 TEU capacity. On August 17, 2011, at 3:45 PM, emergency Hazmat teams rushed to the Norfolk International Terminal following reports of a leaking container aboard the vessel 'Antwerpen Express.' Alarmingly, multiple workers experienced shortness of breath, prompting medical attention for two crew members from the ship and six employees from the terminal. The affected individuals were promptly decontaminated on site. Out of them, five were transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, while the remaining three were taken to DePaul Medical Center. Fortunately, their injuries have been classified as non-life-threatening. Local fire officials are currently conducting an investigation to determine the nature of the hazardous material involved in the incident.
