On March 19, 2020, at approximately 1:50 p.m., the 'DC Vlaanderen 3000,' a vessel traveling from Zeebrugge, docked at the commercial port of Breskens when an engine room fire erupted. Fortunately, the proactive crew quickly addressed the situation by deploying CO2 to extinguish the flames, successfully bringing the incident under control without the need for external fire brigade intervention. To ensure safety, the crew chose to keep the engine room sealed until the morning of March 20. Firefighters from Breskens and Oostburg arrived around 8:00 a.m. to safely assess the situation and check for any remaining hot spots. However, by that time, the fire brigade confirmed that the fire had been completely extinguished. Due to elevated CO2 levels, ventilation of the entire ship was necessary.
