NYK Delphinus Cargo Operations Set to Resume in August
The Port of Oakland is gearing up for the resumption of cargo unloading operations for the 'NYK Delphinus,' with activities anticipated to commence on August 9. This marks a significant development nearly three months following an engine fire incident that occurred offshore in California. On May 14, while approximately 50 miles west of Monterey, the vessel reported a fire in its engine room while carrying 24 crew members. Fortunately, the blaze was contained, and the distressed ship was subsequently towed to the safety of the Port of Oakland. Among the cargo on board were several refrigerated reefer containers that unfortunately lost power during the incident. In response to the situation, the vessel's owners initiated a General Average declaration in May. Notably, the release of the discharged containers is contingent upon the submission and confirmation of General Average Security by an adjuster. As of now, Ocean Network Express (ONE) has indicated that security for a considerable number of containers remains unfiled.
