What Crew Members Say About Delta-Sailor

In a remarkable display of maritime cooperation, two crew members aboard a sailing vessel received urgent assistance after their craft began to take on water near the Bocas, situated north of Trinidad. The rescue operation took place on July 19, 2022, when the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard (TTCG) and the offshore supply vessel 'Delta Sailor' sprang into action to ensure the safety of those on board. The alarm was raised at 5:40 p.m. when North Post Radio reported that a sailing yacht with two individuals was in distress approximately 32 miles north of the first Boca, Trinidad. The Mayday call issued by North Post Radio prompted a swift response from the 'Delta Sailor', which was nearby the Hibiscus Platform at the time. Although the 'Delta Sailor' attempted to assist, the situation was dire, as the sailing vessel was experiencing a rapid influx of water. The forward momentum of the 'Delta Sailor' was critical in preventing the distressed yacht from capsizing. As the Delta Sailor lingered nearby to provide support, the TTCG dispatched a patrol vessel to the scene. Coordinating effectively, Coast Guard Operations reached out to the Yachting Services Association of Trinidad and Tobago (YSATT), who promptly arranged for a safe docking of the yacht upon its arrival in Chaguaramas Bay. As the vessel approached the shore, a dewatering pump was used to expel the excess water, ensuring that it remained afloat throughout the rescue. Eventually, at around 4:20 a.m. on July 20, the vessel was successfully transferred to dock in the Chaguaramas area, marking the end of a tense but ultimately successful rescue mission.
