On November 19, 2023, at 10 a.m., the freighter 'Denia', which was undergoing regular maintenance at Yalova shipyard, broke free from its moorings due to severe weather conditions in the region. As a result, the vessel drifted towards the repair pier and collided with another block pier in Yalova. This incident led to significant structural damage on the starboard side of the ship’s hull, causing water to seep in and the vessel to list up to five degrees to the starboard. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries or environmental pollution. The port authority promptly deployed a tugboat to mitigate the risk of grounding, and pumps were used to remove the excess water from the ship. A comprehensive damage assessment is set to be conducted once the weather conditions improve.
