In a significant milestone for the maritime industry, Foss Maritime has officially launched its latest Arctic Class tug named Denise Foss, marking the second addition to a fleet of three advanced tugs engineered to excel in the harsh conditions of Alaska and the Arctic, primarily supporting the oil and gas sector. The Denise Foss was constructed at the Foss Rainier shipyard in Oregon and had its ceremonial christening last week at the Foss Waterway Seaport, a picturesque waterfront venue situated in Tacoma, Washington. Equipped with an ice class D0 rating, this tug's hull is meticulously designed for polar environments, providing the resilience needed to navigate through first-year ice measuring up to a meter thick. The inaugural tug of this class, Michele Foss, was introduced back in 2015 and has since been actively operating in the challenging waters of Alaska’s North Slope.
