On April 12, 2016, the cargo ship 'Diamond Sea', sailing from Port Arthur to Alexandria, encountered significant engine issues while navigating the Atlantic Ocean, approximately 200 miles southwest of Ponta Delgada. Despite the challenges, the crew successfully managed to restart the engine, albeit at a reduced speed. However, the vessel was required to divert to Ponta Delgada for essential repairs, which included sourcing specific spare parts. Upon arrival, the 'Diamond Sea' dropped anchor in the roads of Ponta Delgada on April 14, marking a critical point in its journey.
