On January 16, 2019, the US Coast Guard, in collaboration with Customs and Border Protection, addressed an incident involving three stowaways aboard the vessel 'Diana J.' The situation unfolded about three miles away from the port of Miami. Early that morning, around 6:34 a.m., Coast Guard Sector Miami watchstanders were alerted by the crew of 'Diana J' about the finding of two adult male stowaways from Guatemala and one adult male from Honduras during a routine pre-arrival search approximately 23 miles northwest of La Palma, Cuba, on January 15. Captain Megan Dean, who oversees Coast Guard Sector Miami, promptly issued a Captain of the Port Order, stipulating that the 'Diana J' must remain at least three miles offshore from the Miami port until Coast Guard and Customs and Border Protection personnel could board the ship and assess the situation. Upon inspection, the boarding teams confirmed that there were no additional stowaways onboard. Consequently, the Captain of the Port Order was lifted, and the three individuals were taken into custody by the CBP Office of Field Operations.
