Disabled Container Ship 'Dina Trader' Safely Towed to Brest

Jul 16, 2018 10:58

On July 14, 2018, at approximately 14:00, the container vessel 'Dina Trader' alerted the CROSS Corsen after experiencing a power failure during its journey from Brest to Dunkirk. At the time of the incident, the ship was located eight nautical miles to the southwest of Pointe Saint-Mathieu and had twelve crew members on board. Thankfully, 'Dina Trader' retained enough propulsion power to navigate against the currents. Due to the vessel's proximity to the shoreline and the potential risks posed to navigation and coastal safety, the emergency tug 'Abeille Bourbon' was dispatched from Brest at around 16:30. The tug arrived at the distressed ship by 18:15. After the crew made unsuccessful attempts to rectify the situation, the tug was contracted by the ship's owners to tow the 'Dina Trader' back to safety. A towing connection was successfully established by 18:30, and both vessels arrived at the commercial port of Brest at 23:10, ensuring the container ship was safely berthed. Following repairs and preparations, 'Dina Trader' departed Brest once more on July 19 at 19:15, setting its sights on Dunkirk with an estimated arrival time of July 21 at 06:00.
