On September 18, 2018, a critical medevac operation was successfully executed by a Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew, who rescued a man from the fishing vessel '5"DL Lavender', located approximately 92 miles southwest of Dutch Harbor, Alaska. The incident began on the afternoon of September 17 when the vessel's agent alerted the Coast Guard 17th District Command Center about a crew member exhibiting symptoms consistent with a possible stroke. Upon receiving the alarming report, a Coast Guard flight surgeon was promptly briefed on the situation, who then recommended immediate medical evacuation for the affected crew member. Responding to the urgency of the situation, command center watchstanders instructed the master of the 'DL Lavender' to navigate towards Dutch Harbor. To facilitate the operation, they dispatched a Kodiak-based rescue swimmer from a Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak HC-130 Hercules, who met up with the Dolphin helicopter crew waiting in Dutch Harbor.
