Stormy Seas Claim Containers from Dolphin II in North Pacific
On January 21, 2016, the vessel 'Dolphin II' encountered treacherous storm conditions in the North Pacific, approximately 300 miles off the Kuril Islands (position 45° 10'N 158° 50'E). During this incident, the ship lost at least 20 containers. At the time, 'Dolphin II' was fully loaded with over 2,900 TEU and sustained damage to its railings and securing lines, which contributed to the unfortunate loss of cargo and the shifting of additional containers. Having departed from Busan on January 16, the container ship was en route to the Panama Canal, with an estimated arrival date of February 6. In a bid to navigate through the storm safely, the vessel adjusted its course to keep the winds at its stern until weather conditions improved. Following a risk assessment that indicated no further threats to the remaining cargo or the vessel itself, 'Dolphin II' successfully resumed its journey towards Panama.
