Working Conditions Aboard the Dominica

On January 30, 2025, the bulk carrier 'Dominica', part of the Ership Group fleet, sprang into action to assist a stranded sailing vessel off the Atlantic coast. The incident unfolded while 'Dominica' was navigating towards Praia, Cape Verde, near the coasts of Mauritania. At approximately 2:50 p.m. UTC, the National Rescue Coordination Centre (CNCS) issued an urgent call for help after receiving an activation signal from the sailing vessel's radio beacon. In response, 'Dominica', which was transporting a cargo of bulk cement, changed course to locate the distressed yacht. Battling challenging weather conditions, the crew of 'Dominica' successfully rescued the three Spanish sailors, ensuring their safety aboard the bulk carrier. Following their rescue, the sailors were escorted to the Spanish Consulate in Praia on February 1, where immigration authorities and the shipping agency confirmed their well-being.

In a timely rescue operation on August 21, 2023, a cargo ship played a crucial role in assisting a group of distressed migrants. An inflatable boat carrying 54 individuals was detected around 3:15 a.m. by the Comprehensive Exterior Surveillance System (SIVE), approximately 15 nautical miles southeast of Teguise's coast, as it made its way towards Lanzarote. The vessel 'Dominica', which was en route from Mindelo to Safi, was promptly alerted and requested to provide aid. Meanwhile, the 'Salvamar Al Nair', dispatched by Salvamento Marítimo, was on its way to the scene. By 6:28 a.m., the search and rescue boat successfully retrieved 41 men, 12 women, and one minor, all of sub-Saharan origin and reported to be in good health. The migrants were subsequently disembarked at Puerto Naos in Arrecife, while their inflatable boat remained adrift.
