Stormy Weather Causes Damage to Nitric Acid Containers on 'Dong Fang Fu'
The container ship 'Dong Fang Fu', sailing from Shanghai to Taichung, faced turbulent conditions while navigating the East China Sea. During the storm, six tank containers carrying nitric acid experienced significant shifting and damage amid the severe pitching and rolling of the vessel. In response to these difficulties, the ship altered its course and successfully docked at Keelung port on the night of September 14, 2017. Early the following morning, crew members detected a distinct acid odor and wasted no time in notifying the appropriate authorities. Technicians from a nearby chemical factory were dispatched to address the situation and ensure safe containment of the leak. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the hazardous material did not spill into the surrounding waters. After a thorough cleanup process, the 'Dong Fang Fu' departed Keelung on September 15, continuing its journey to Taichung, where the damaged containers were slated for offloading.
