On December 24, 2015, a dramatic medical evacuation unfolded off the coast of Table Bay when the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) Table Bay deployed its lifeboat, 'Spirit of Vodacom.' This operation was in response to a Filipino sailor aboard the vessel 'Star Aline' who had suffered from inhaling toxic fumes. Thanks to the quick response of the NSRI team, along with Western Cape Government Health EMS paramedics, the sailor was swiftly brought to safety. After being brought to shore in stable condition, he was subsequently transported by EMS ambulance to a local hospital for further medical attention.
