On the evening of August 13, 2019, at precisely 10 p.m., the bulk carrier "Doric Warrior" collided with the moored tanker "Mammmad Amin Resulzader" near the Zeytinburnu coast at Ahırkapı Anchorage in the Marmara Sea. The "Doric Warrior," which was en route from Newport, USA, to Yuzhniy, struck the tanker that had departed from Altinova on August 10, with its destination set for Zeyport. Both vessels were preparing to transit the Bosphorus at the time of the unfortunate incident. The collision resulted in visible damage; the tanker sustained a dented bulwark at its port side foreship, while the bulk carrier displayed scratches and dents along its starboard bow above the water line. The tanker’s master expressed initial concerns about severe damage, fearing his vessel was at risk of sinking. In response, the General Directorate of the Coast Guard dispatched three tugs alongside three rescue vessels to assist at the scene of the allision, leading to a temporary suspension of movements and activities for other nearby ships and tankers. By August 14, both vessels were safely moored at the Ahirkapi anchorage, positioned close to one another. Damage assessments resumed at daybreak, with the tanker positioned at coordinates 40° 58.37' N 028° 55.38' E, and the "Doric Warrior" at 40° 58.86' N 028° 55.16' E, alongside the lifeboat "Kiyi Emniyeti 3" (MMSI: 271010031). On August 23, the tanker entered the Cesme Shipyard for repairs at 1:15 p.m. Meanwhile, the "Doric Warrior" departed Istanbul on August 20 at 9:30 a.m. and arrived in Chornomorsk on August 24. On December 1, 2018, the bulk carrier 'Doric Warrior' was reported to have released 53 tons of diesel oil into the North Sea. The vessel had departed from Rotterdam on November 30 and subsequently docked at Ventspils Commercial Port on December 6. Following the discharge, a surveillance flight conducted by the Danish Naval Forces on December 11 revealed no signs of pollution in the area. This incident is now under legal scrutiny, as the case has been forwarded to the lawyers for further action.
