China Welcomes Sea Princess: The Charming Cruise Experience Awaits
China is set to unveil its second domestically-operated cruise experience with the recent acquisition of the 'Sea Princess' from Carnival Corporationโs renowned Princess Cruises. The official handover took place in Manila, with the ship arriving at anchor on November 13, 2020. Previously, the 'Sea Princess' operated primarily in Australian waters for Princess Cruises and P&O Cruises, until the pandemic temporarily sidelined her activities. In September, Princess Cruises announced the sale of both the 'Sea Princess' and her sister ship, 'Sun Princess'. Following the transfer, the 'Sea Princess' will be rebranded as 'Charming' under the management of Sanya International Cruise. Meanwhile, the 'Sun Princess' is set to commence operations with the Japanese non-governmental organization, Peace Boat, in 2021, renamed as 'Pacific World'.
Emergency Airlift from Cruise Ship Near Hamilton Island
A critical medical emergency unfolded on February 23, 2019, as a 71-year-old woman from Brisbane experienced a severe brain bleed while aboard the 'Sea Princess,' approximately 138 kilometers north-east of Hamilton Island. In response to the dire situation, an RACQ CQ Rescue helicopter undertook a remarkable 10-hour journey, covering over 1200 kilometers to airlift the unconscious passenger. The dedicated crew successfully winched the woman from the vessel and expedited her transfer to Townsville Hospital, where she was admitted in critical condition. At the time, the cruise ship was en route back to Brisbane, carrying a total of 1,998 passengers on its 14-day voyage. This incident underscores the importance of immediate medical response on cruise liners.
