In the early hours of July 19, 2017, at approximately 3 a.m., the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Dover alerted CROSS Gris-Nez regarding a maritime incident involving the container ship 'Samskip Courier' and the St. Vincent and the Grenadines-flagged tug 'MTS Viscount.' The tug, which was towing floating pipes from Rotterdam to Arzew using a 1,100-meter-long towing wire, was struck about 30 nautical miles northwest of Dunkerque, in British waters. Fortunately, the collision resulted in no injuries to the crew of either vessel, and there were no reports of pollution resulting from the incident. While both ships sustained minor damages, the 'Samskip Courier' resumed its journey to Rotterdam, successfully docking at 11:30 a.m. Meanwhile, the 'MTS Viscount' was compelled to release its towing cable and its crew worked diligently to recover the floating cargo and re-establish the tow. The Dover MRCC, which coordinated the entire operation, maintained contact with the tug's owner, who dispatched several assistance tugs to aid in the recovery efforts. By July 20, the tug 'MTS Taktow' (IMO: 8133827) had reached the scene to provide further support.
