On the afternoon of March 14, 2012, the cargo vessel "Edenborg" played a crucial role in a dramatic rescue operation in the Dover Strait. At approximately 3:15 p.m., a diver was spotted in the busy North East shipping lane, close to the Sandettie South West Buoy. A passing vessel alerted the Dover Coastguard, which swiftly dispatched the RAF Rescue helicopter from Wattisham, along with RNLI lifeboats from Walmer and Dover, to the scene. In an effort to ensure maritime safety, the Coastguard also issued warnings to nearby vessels. Just twenty minutes later, a dive boat reported that one of their divers was missing, prompting the Dover lifeboat to head to their location for further details. The "Edenborg," having heard the call for assistance, was in the vicinity and promptly arrived at the site alongside the Walmer lifeboat. Observing the diver in distress, the crew of the "Edenborg" reported their findings to the Coastguard and coordinated efforts with the Walmer lifeboat. As a result, the diver was successfully rescued from the perilous waters of the shipping lane. Following the rescue, the dive boat confirmed that the individual was indeed their missing member. The diver was reunited with the crew and both returned to Dover Harbour safely, accompanied by the Dover lifeboat. After fulfilling its role in this life-saving mission, the "Edenborg" continued on its journey.
