On the early morning of November 26, 2015, at approximately 5:30 a.m., a maritime incident unfolded in the Oste Estuary involving two vessels: the 'Transcapricorn' and the 'Eendracht.' The 'Transcapricorn,' which was making its way from Rotterdam to Tornio, collided with the 'Eendracht,' a vessel carrying project cargo on its route from Hamburg towards the North Sea. As the 'Eendracht' navigated near buoy 52, it inexplicably veered from its course, crossing into the fairway and into the path of the 'Transcapricorn,' which was heavily loaded with scrap metal. Pilot assistance was present on both vessels during the incident. In a rapid response, the 'Eendracht' attempted to shift course to port, while the 'Transcapricorn' executed a sharp turn to starboard. Despite these maneuvers, a collision was unavoidable, with both vessels striking stern-to-stern outside of the designated fairway. Following the impact, the 'Transcapricorn' became immobilized against the southern shore of the Elbe, just under the Oste Estuary. Emergency services quickly mobilized, including the tugboat 'Wulf 7' and several other tugs, which worked to extricate the ship. The anti-pollution vessel 'Neuwerk' and the lifeboat 'Hermann Helms' were also dispatched to the scene to ensure safety and address any potential environmental impact.
