On February 18, 2020, a security incident unfolded off the coast of Lagos involving the tanker 'Dong-A Thetis'. At approximately 12:20 a.m., three perpetrators in a small boat approached the vessel, anchored at coordinates 06°17'53"N, 003°14'16"E, within the designated secure anchorage zone. The assailants made an attempt to board the ship using the anchor chain. Fortunately, the vigilant duty crew members on their regular patrol noticed the suspicious activity and promptly raised the alarm. The swift response from the crew deterred the would-be intruders, who abandoned their boarding attempt and fled the scene in their boat. The Lagos Port Control was promptly informed of the attempted breach, ensuring that maritime security remained a priority in the region.
