Four Stowaways Discovered on the Elbcarrier in Belfast
On June 4, 2021, the port of Belfast was the scene of an incident involving four stowaways who were discovered aboard the cargo vessel 'Elbcarrier.' The ship's crew alerted authorities early in the morning, prompting the Border Force to arrive at the port at 8:30 a.m. Later, at 10:00 a.m., the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service was summoned to assist. The stowaways, who identified themselves as men from Libya, reportedly boarded the Elbcarrier in Antwerp. One of the individuals sustained minor injuries and all four were taken to the hospital for evaluation, during which they were also tested for Covid-19. These stowaways will be processed in accordance with immigration regulations. After the incident, the Elbcarrier resumed its journey, departing Belfast on June 5 at 4:50 p.m. and is scheduled to arrive back in Antwerp on June 7.
Elbcarrier Sets Sail from Dublin Ferryport for Rotterdam
The 'Elbcarrier' has embarked on its next journey after departing from Dublin Ferryport Terminal on December 9 at 2:20 PM. Following the successful removal of its remaining cargo and the completion of cargo operations on December 13 at 2:10 AM, the vessel set its course for Rotterdam. On December 15 at 6:15 AM, the 'Elbcarrier' arrived at the RST Shortsea Container Terminal South, marking another successful port call in its operational timeline.
Elbcarrier Experiences Cargo Loss in the Irish Sea
On December 8, 2019, at approximately 11:30 p.m., the container ship 'Elbcarrier' encountered severe weather conditions while navigating through the Irish Sea, leading to the unfortunate loss of several containers. The incident occurred roughly 25 miles west of St. Annes Head, at coordinates 51°41.4'N, 5°50.54'W, while the vessel was heading from Rotterdam to Dublin. At the time of reporting, a total of 12 containers were identified drifting in the vicinity at coordinates 51°40'N, 5°50'W. However, the precise number of containers that fell overboard remains uncertain. Following the incident, the 'Elbcarrier' successfully arrived at the Dublin Ferryport Terminal on December 9 at 2:20 p.m. Thankfully, none of the lost cargo contained hazardous materials. The situation was promptly communicated to the ARCC, which arranged for a fixed-wing aircraft to conduct an aerial survey of the affected area on December 9. Additional notifications were also sent to vessels operating nearby regarding the drifting containers.
