Robbery Incident Aboard Bulk Carrier in Muara Berau, Indonesia
According to a report from ReCAAP, a distressing robbery took place on October 16, 2012, at approximately 0405 hours local time involving the bulk carrier, Bulk Neptune. The vessel was securely anchored at Muara Berau Anchorage, located in Samarinda, East Kalimantan, Makassar Strait, Indonesia, at the coordinates 00°15.67'N 117°35.65'E. During a routine security patrol, two Able-Bodied (A/B) crew members encountered three unidentified men at the forecastle of the ship. The crew promptly alerted the duty officer about the intruders and approached the men to ascertain their intentions. Unfortunately, the situation escalated when one of the assailants, armed with a knife, physically attacked one of the A/B crew, inflicting minor injuries including bruises on the back, lips, and knees. The crew members quickly retreated to the accommodation area for safety. In the midst of the chaos, the robbers managed to steal a wristwatch from one of the A/B crew members. Following the incident, the general alarm was activated and the crew assembled on the bridge to ensure everyone's safety.
