Engine Failure Strikes 'Enif' Near Gocuk Burnu
On December 24, 2025, the vessel 'Enif' experienced a significant engine failure while navigating the waters off Gocuk Burnu during its transit through the Çanakkale Strait. The ship was en route from Iskenderun to Yalova for necessary repairs. Prior to this incident, the 'Enif' faced regulatory scrutiny and had been detained at Iskenderun on December 4 due to nine documented deficiencies. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of the Çanakkale Ship Traffic Services Center, the 'Enif' was successfully taken in tow by the tugboat 'Kurtarma 10' (IMO: 9598593), aided by another tug, 'Kurtarma 13' (IMO: 9913573). Together, they brought the troubled vessel to the Şevketiye Anchorage, where with the assistance of a pilot, it was secured in position 40° 25' N 026° 50' E. As of December 27, the 'Enif' remains moored and stationary at this location. For more details, check out the video report: https://x.com/kiyiemniyet/status/2004069966992257109.

General Cargo Ship 'ACORUS' Faces New Ban in Paris MoU Region
The 28-year-old general cargo vessel 'ACORUS' has once again found itself in hot water, facing a ban from the Paris Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) region. Detained on November 10, 2023, in Piraeus, Greece, the ship was undergoing a re-inspection to lift a refusal of access order initially imposed back in July 2017. This latest detention marks the second time within 36 months that the 'ACORUS' has been held in Greece, as reported by the Paris MoU authorities. Flying the Moldovan flag, the 'ACORUS' has been listed as black on the current Paris MoU White, Gray, and Black (WGB) list, meaning it faces significant restrictions. According to section 4 of the Paris MoU and Article 16 of EU Council Directive 2009/16/EC, the ship will be denied entry to all ports and anchorages within the Paris MoU region, with the sole exception being those within its flag State. This refusal of access will take effect as soon as the vessel is granted permission to depart from its current port. Since this marks the second instance of a refusal of access order, the period during which the 'ACORUS' is barred will be set at 12 months. In contrast, the initial refusal of access in the Greek port of Aspropyrgos in July resulted in a three-month ban. As the maritime industry closely monitors compliance and safety standards, the challenges faced by the 'ACORUS' highlight ongoing concerns regarding vessel operations under various flag states.
