On the morning of February 27, 2017, a maritime incident occurred at the Magreth port of Porto Nogaro involving two cargo vessels: the Turkish ship 'Erdogan Senkaya' and the 'Luca S'. The 'Erdogan Senkaya', which was arriving to load steel cargo, collided with the already moored 'Luca S', set to discharge silica sand. During the docking maneuver, the 'Erdogan Senkaya' unexpectedly lurched into the starboard foreship of the 'Luca S', creating a significant gash in its hull and causing immediate water ingress. Fortunately, the breach was confined to the ballast tank, averting any risk of sinking. The crew of the 'Luca S' managed to stabilize the vessel by balancing the ballast and rapidly unloading its cargo, effectively restoring the proper trim and keeping the gash above water. The Porto Nogaro Coast Guard quickly responded with two teams, utilizing a patrol boat and a shore patrol. They conducted initial assessments, ensured safety measures were in place at the port, and took precautions to prevent environmental pollution.
