In the early hours of September 6, 2013, the cargo vessel 'Erham Araz', carrying a significant load of 3,397 tons of steel rolls, ran aground at Beykoz Beach while navigating the Bosphorus strait. The incident occurred at precisely 04:32 a.m. due to a rudder malfunction, which caused the ship to drift off its intended path in a north-south direction. In response, the Turkish Coastguard deployed the vessel 'Kurtarma 4' along with the lifeboat 'Kıyı Emniyeti 9' to assist in the situation and facilitate the refloating of the grounding ship. Fortunately, all 11 crew members aboard 'Erham Araz' emerged unharmed, but the grounding resulted in damage to several local fishing boats, some of which sank as a consequence.
