Engine Failure Strands Container Ship 'Escape' Near Southampton
On October 29, 2019, at 5:45 PM, the container ship 'Escape', carrying a crew of 15 and transporting 3,974 tons of cargo, encountered engine malfunction due to inadequate pressure in the oil vein fitting while navigating waters off Southampton. Within ten minutes, the crew managed to restart the engine but decided to anchor for critical repairs. The vessel, which was en route from Rotterdam to Southampton, took up position at coordinates 50° 36' 26.0" N, 001° 00' 58.0" W and promptly requested the presence of an engineer from the operating company.In light of prevailing weather conditions, which featured 4-5 Beaufort winds, the Southampton Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) informed that support could not arrive until October 31. In the meantime, towing assistance from Lomax was scheduled for October 30 at 7 AM, with plans to facilitate a pilot's boarding by 8 AM to help the 'Escape' reach her designated berth in Southampton. By 1 PM, the 'Escape' was making her way towards the port under the guidance of the towing vessel 'Lomax' (IMO: 9657832).
