Meanwhile, the 'Free State' also continued its voyage from King Abdullah Port and anchored off Burgas at 1 AM on August 28, remaining in position 42Β° 29.63' N 027Β° 32.19' E on August 29.

On November 21, 2011, a dramatic medical evacuation unfolded involving the bulk carrier 'Shagangfirst Power' approximately 72 miles from Cold Bay. The incident began when the Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak received a distress call via radio reporting a 23-year-old Chinese crewman experiencing severe abdominal pain. In response, an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew, forward deployed from the Coast Guard Cutter 'Sherman', was dispatched to assist. The rescue operation was executed flawlessly, with the helicopter team arriving at the scene at 5:35 p.m. They successfully hoisted the patient onboard and promptly set course for Cold Bay. Upon landing, the crewman was transferred to emergency medical personnel waiting at the airstrip and subsequently taken to the Cold Bay clinic for immediate medical attention. This swift action by the Coast Guard showcases the essential role they play in maritime health and safety.
