In a maritime incident on May 23, 2019, the Bangladeshi lighter ship 'Sea Crown' encountered disaster as it capsized in the Karnaphuli River near the Karnaphuli 3rd Bridge at approximately 9:30 a.m. The vessel was transporting 1,100 tonnes of stone, having taken the load from the 'Bravo Trader'. Fortunately, all 13 crew members were able to escape to nearby boats and other vessels during the mishap. After loading the imported stones at the outer anchorage of Chattogram Port on May 22, 'Sea Crown' had moved to a private terminal located near Old Ferryghat at Isanagar on the river's south bank, awaiting the unloading process that was set to commence the following morning. However, as a Nor’wester struck early that day, the lighter vessel became ensnared in a stone embankment along the riverbank. Despite attempts by Mamata Trading Company to dislodge it using a tug service, the effort proved futile and led to the development of a crack in the bottom of the vessel, ultimately resulting in its sinking. The 'Bravo Trader', which had departed from Xiamen, China, en route to Chittagong, began its journey on May 4.
